Some questions about St. Lucia come up often. So, as travel experts who LOVE this destination (and designing amazing honeymoons and anniversary trips in St. Lucia), we thought we’d give you the answers to all those common questions.
What is St. Lucia known for?
St. Lucia is known for being a mountainous tropical luxury paradise popular for honeymoons and anniversaries. It’s two towering twin mountains, the Pitons, are the iconic symbol of the islands. The island is also famous for its mud baths, scuba diving, and dormant volcano. St. Lucia also has a very high percentage of boutique and unique hotels for the size of the island.
Is it safe to travel to St. Lucia?
St. Lucia currently does not have any travel warnings that would make it an abnormal safety concern. We always recommend that you travel smart and keep personal safety in mind wherever you go as every destination can be dangerous when traveled foolishly. When we were in St. Lucia, we never felt unsafe. We do not recommend driving on your own as most of the roads are quite narrow and switch backs steep.
What is the best time of year to go to St. Lucia?
St. Lucia is great year round. However, you tend to get more rain showers July to November. Rain showers are usually brief and you are back to fun in the sun. This is also hurricane season, though St. Lucia is so far south that it misses most of the hurricanes. Some locals prefer these months because the sun and sky are brighter than in the winter time when the blues are not quite as vivid.
Is St. Lucia part of the US Virgin Islands?
No, it is not. The name sounds a bit the same…but it is not part of the US Virgin Islands.
Who owns St. Lucia?
St. Lucia is a Commonwealth of Great Britain which runs largely independently.
Do I need a passport for St. Lucia?
Yes, you do. Passports need to be valid for 6 months past your travel dates.
Where should I honeymoon in St. Lucia?
You really can’t go wrong. The South and the North of St. Lucia both have incredible resorts and advantages. The South has so much of the famous natural wonders like the Pitons and mud baths. The North has restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and beautiful long beaches. So, we say: don’t choose. Split your stay between the South and North so you get the best of both worlds.
Is St. Lucia a good honeymoon spot?
Absolutely! Several publications rank it in the top 10 in the world if not #1 in the Caribbean. We’ve never seen another destination where 90% of the couples getting off the plane are holding hands. It’s an island where romance is definitely in the air…perfect for honeymoons!

What makes St. Lucia different than other Caribbean islands?
St. Lucia has a very unique sense of place. It does not feel like “just another Caribbean island.” It’s like if Hawaii and a foodie had a baby island…it would be St. Lucia. There is a huge variety of farm-to-table cuisine available at the island’s boutique hotels. Most of the hotels and resorts have a very unique feel to them and a high percentage of them are luxury-focused. St. Lucia is not overly commercialized or developed and you really feel like you are somewhere special when you land. The high degree of tourists there to celebrate as couples brings a special air of romance to the island. It’s a slower pace of life in all the best ways that makes it easy to savor life with your special someone.
